Resource of the Day: Greek Mythology for kids

The study of Greco-Roman mythology is actually fairly important in order to be literate in the English language. The stories so pervade the ancient culture and have been since referenced so much that a basic understanding of at least the major stories helps quite a bit. I've found a cute site for kids:

MythWeb

While it only goes over the Greek versions of the names and stories, it's not hard to then research and find the Roman equivalents if you so desire.

Resource of the Day: Alexander Hamilton resources

Have you seen the Alexander Hamilton exhibition? It's coming to our town in a few weeks, and we may pop in on it. In the meantime, the society that is putting on the exhibition has a GREAT site, full of resources about Alexander Hamilton, one of our founding fathers:

Alexander Hamilton Exhibition

There's a virtual tour, a document tour, quiz, lesson plans (look under "About the exhibition", then "For Teachers") and more.

Sorry for the light posting this week, I've been working on two exciting projects that have taken up most of my time - more about those next week, hopefully!

Resource of the Day: Colonial Williamsburg online

What a nice site - Colonial Williamsburg has a kids' site online!

Colonial Williamsburg - Kids

There are games and activities, clickable historical scenes, a section for parents and teachers, and more!

(Although, I'm having trouble with it wanting to lock up my browser just a bit. Be warned, it may take a while to switch back to another window or tab when viewing this site.)

Be sure to come back on Monday - I will be participating in the winter Bloggy Giveaway sponsored by Rocks In My Dryer and Bloggy Giveaways. I will be giving an exclusive homeschool freebie next week to some lucky commenter!

Happy 2008, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season, and that you're rarin' to go in the new year with new subjects, new ideas and lots of energy! After taking a break for the holidays myself, I'm ready to get back to the Resource of the Day.

There are 3 different pages available for MLK notebooking, I hope you like all of them. In addition, you will notice that we provide each notebooking page in 3 varieties; half inch dashed paper, one inch dashed paper, and standard wide rule notebook paper. This way, you can let a wider age range of children work on similar notebooks all at the same time. I hope you find these free notebooking pages to be a blessing in your homeschool!

This week week's freebie from Homeschool eStore is a book title "Ned: Barnardo Boy", and it certainly sounds interesting! From the description:

Discover how Ned finds help at a Ragged School, becomes a “Barnardo boy,” and eventually emigrates to Canada to begin a new life. Ned: Barnardo Boy is a historically accurate children’s book that is delighting children and adults alike. Meticulously researched and full of spiritual truth, Ned is a book your family will treasure.
